PERRIS HIGH SCHOOL MUSIC PROGRAM
Beginning Band: Students
will have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument without any
musical background knowledge. This class is designed to teach the
fundamental concepts of performing in a Concert Band setting. Students
will learn how to play their specific instrument with a good sound,
simple rhythms, note reading, and good practice habits. The beginning
Band rehearses Monday through Friday during 3rd period in the
Bandroom. Upon completion of Beginning Band, students may enter the
Intermediate Band as a member of the Perris High School Marching
Panthers.
Piano Class: This is
a general elective class that will teach students basic music reading
through piano performance. Students will be engaged in the music
making process by learning to read both treble and bass clef notes,
simple rhythms, build left/right hand coordination, and basic
musicality. Students need no experience to take this course. The
piano class is Monday through Friday during 5th period in the Piano Lab.
Drumline: The
Perris High Drumline is a performing group that represents our school
with performances at school events such as football games, basketball
games, and local parades within the community. Students need no
experience to join the Drumline, however drum positions are
limited. The Drumline class will teach students how to play their drum
correctly, read simple drum music, and allow each student to gain
performance experience. The Drumline class meets Monday through Friday
during 2nd period. Also, to participate in Drumline, students must be
enrolled in 7th period Marching Band.
Colorguard: The
Perris High Colorguard is another performing group that represents our
school and complements our music program with a colorful array of flag
technique. Students in the Colorguard will learn concepts,
fundamentals, and techniques of spinning, tossing, and coordinating
flag routines as a group. This group is also a performing group that
can be seen in local parades in the community and school events. There
is no experience necessary to join the Colorguard. The Colorguard
class meets Monday through Friday during 2nd period in the Bandroom as
well as participation in 7th period Marching Band.
Intermediate Band: This
class is designed for students who already have 1 or more years of
experience on an instrument. Students who have completed Beginning
Band or have completed at least one year of band class at the middle
school level on a woodwind or brass instrument may take this course.
This course teaches practice techniques, comlex rhythms, inntonation,
and expands on the student's instrumental range. Students enrolled in
this course will also be enrolled in 7th period Marching Band as part
of the Perris High School Marching Panthers. This band, combined with
the Drumline and Colorguard, will represent our school in their
uniforms at on-campus events, parades, sporting events, and other
events within the community.
